Air Leak Around the Valve? How to Tighten the Valve on Your Paddle Board

The Wild Tribe Team 3 min read

Step 1 — Preparation

  • Inflate your paddle board to over 10 PSI. Trying to tighten the valve with the board deflated will be impossible
  • Grab your valve tool from your orange repair kit
  • Grab water and soap to spray around the valve — this lets you monitor when the bubbles stop

Step 2 — Tighten the Valve

Open your valve cap. Insert the valve tool teeth inside the holes around the valve stem. Screw clockwise to tighten the valve.

Pro Tip

Use your other hand to press and keep your valve tool horizontal. Avoid diagonal force that can break the teeth on the tool.

Step 3 — Verify and Close

Spray soapy water around the valve again. If no more bubbles appear, the leak is fixed. Close the valve cover securely.

If bubbles persist after tightening, the valve may need replacement. Contact our support team for assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if the leak is from the valve?
Inflate your board and spray soapy water around the valve area. If you see bubbles forming around the valve base, the valve needs tightening.
What if tightening doesn't fix the leak?
If the valve is still leaking after tightening, the valve seal may be worn. Contact The Wild Tribe support for a replacement valve or repair guidance.
Can I over-tighten the valve?
It's difficult to over-tighten, but use firm pressure without forcing it. If it won't tighten further and still leaks, the valve likely needs replacement.
